I don’t leave comments on blogs as often as I might like to. The main reason I don’t comment is because I try to be polite to the blog owner by not leaving off topic comments. Sometimes I read every post on the front page just to see if I can in some way relate my comment to a given topic. Most of the time I can’t so instead of leaving an off-topic comment I don’t say anything.

Here is a little trick I’ve used on most of my sites to engage my readers. It is really easy.

Just create a new page and call it something creative that fits your personality. I usually call mine “Graffiti” because, well, I always call my comment page “Graffiti” and old habits die hard. You can simply name your page “Comments” or “Guestbook” or anything that fits the theme of your blog.

Make sure your page is set up to accept comments and write some text inviting your visitors to leave a comment. That’s all there is too it. Now people can post their “just passing through” comments without worrying about being off topic.

Let me know what you think of this idea by leaving a comment to this post, or by golly leave me some graffiti here.

Hello Inflatable Halloween, although I find it hard to believe that is your real name.. I delinked your comment because I don’t appreciate the SEO spam…

On most situations, I do not give comments. But after I read an article that told your comments will become the encouragements for the blog owner. Then I begin to give comments. :)

No I don’t feel so bad. I just did an update and forgot to back up first. Lost some stuff too.
