I am so freeking sick and tired of Google Adsense. I guess I’m not smart enough to figure out how people make money from it because I have never made one thin dime. I think I’m going to take it off of all my sites and just forget about it. blah!

I write a blog that is all over the place content wise, it is a humor blog that covers a lot of stuff. When I have movie trailer ads my content clicks go through the roof, I wish I could just keep them on there all the time. But I am in the same spot you are with mostly blogging ads and text link ads.

However I still do okay I make around $50 a month from the ads.

The same thing happened with me on one of my blogs Sue… All of my Adsense ads were about creating blogs and not about the content of the blog at all.

I believe money can be made with Adsense, but not on this blog… :p

I think that “considerably good amount oftraffic to our website” may mean traffic driven by Google searches that land on keywords at our sites. It’s important to use the meta tags “content” and “description” to desribe every post you write that’s on your topic where you want ads. Even doing that, where I had traffic from off-topic sites like software forums, my Google ads went wildly astray. My sites are actually related to IBS; the most active right now is For My Tummy. It is another site in the same vein, that I won’t name, where Google posted really WRONG ads; the traffic there was from people wanting to see what I had done with the software.

I’m writing to this blog because I got a Technorati favorite from this site, and that helps in the rankings. I don’t know that lots of clicks just from curiosity will help with the Adsense I just re-added to For My Tummy. I’ll come back and let you know whether imitating my links and putting Adsense just below has helped increase traffic.

I think we need to have considerably good amount of traffic to our website then only we can make good money with adsense.

  • Lisa says:

I also have made a whole whopping $9 with Adsense since April 2006.

  • Napolux says:

Well, you have to customize the plugin CSS according to your theme, i think I can’t help in this case…

  • Napolux says:

The same email, url and nickname… But now it seems to work ;)

  • Anna says:

What do you mean by the “same settings”? What do I need to put in my admin panel?

  • Napolux says:

I came here from your comment on my blog. Are you sure you have the same settings on your WP admin panel and in your mybloglog account?

  • Steph says:

Welcome.. heh heh, sorry ’bout going a bit over board there. ;)

  • Anna says:

hehe, Richard, I’ve only trickled 8 dollars in the last year… I need to turn on the faucet a little harder I think…

  • Richard says:

I’ve got it in a couple of places and never make a lot of money, but it just sits there without my help and makes some. A trickle is better than none, and if you have it trickling in from several places it starts to add up.

  • Anna says:

Now, is that a comment or is that a comment? hehe

    That’s a lot of good information… thank you for that… :)

Hello, I followed your link to here from Bloggers For Dollars.

You’re definitely not alone, as you can see from the comments here. Making money from AdSense is little more than hype; you will notice that those who brag about making the money are those with VERY popular sites or blogs.

I got fed up with this awhile back and made this post:
    http://steph.shadowsinmotion.com/uncategorized/unhealthy-the-adsenseyahoo-ad-click-hype/

At the time (July of 2006) I was using AdSense. These days I don’t.

Also, about AdSense and the word “blog” – You’re not alone there, either! Oh, wow, are you ever not…

Back when I used AdSense I was in heck of a struggle to try to eliminate ads for blogs or blog services. I spent several days adding sites to my competitive ad filter / blocked sites list, whatever you want to call it.

It was a lost cause. There are SO many ads for blogs.. ~sigh~ It was like trying to stop a waterfall by using a bottle cork. It just wasn’t going to plug the flow of those ads.

I did learn something very useful from my attempts, though. All of this was true at the time, but may have been tweaked since then:

1.) Google seems to use keywords rather than using the actual content of your website or blog posts. Unfortunately, based on my experience, they seem to give more weight to some keywords than they do to others. Sometimes it is a considerable amount of weight.

2.) Your domain name will be scanned for such keywords.

3.) Google (at least AdSense) will tie such keywords from your content/posts to your domain name. #1 applies – it will weigh some keywords far more than others. Those that receive more weight will “stick” to your domain name stronger than the other words.

“More important” keywords will be used instead of any keywords that you may have in your domain name itself.

Content (and at times, the actual words of your domain name) be darned. Once it ties these keywords to your domain name you will be stuck with ads for them site wide. When I say “stuck”, I mean industry strength super glue stuck.

4.) The word “blog” is one of the keywords that it gives a godly amount of weight (or “strength”) and stickiness to. Unless this has changed since my battle with AdSense over this mess (July of 2006), your actual content matters little to nothing at all when compared to these keywords.

I noticed that the ads that show up immediately after submitting a post DOES use the content of your post. However, once their system notices your domain name and thus connects its chosen keywords to you the content of your post will be ignored and those keyword specific ads will be used.

My Shadows In Motion blog covers some very strange topics and, as one may expect, is more popular at Halloween than at other times of the year. Despite this, I just couldn’t get rid of the “blog” ads.

In time it did eventually shift to associate with other, more pertinent keywords, but it probably helped that I flat out stopped using AdSense for awhile and had completely removed the dreaded word from my templates and posts.

Perhaps this long hiatus from using their service forced them to clear their cache for my domain.

Ultimately I gave up. It was way too much work for a service that way underperformed.. I pull it out again from time to time to see how it’ll do, but little ever changes in terms of its performance.

If we had thousands of unique viewers per day and we tucked AdSense into our content in such a way that it looked like a part of said content then yes, I’m sure that we’d see much better performance.

I wish you all the luck with that. :D

wow, that was a huge comment…

  • Anna says:

I keep coming back to the one with the sunflowers at the bottom (aptly named “Flowers”)… I bet after I look at another hundred I’ll finally choose this one… I think it is easy to read, which is a must…

  • Anna says:

hehe…I’m downloading and uploading a lot of them… what color did you like? I like the cyan one… one sec…

  • Amy says:

    Oh, freaky.

The one I REALLY liked was a medium blue and had the calendar at the top and the bottom had sunflowers and stuff.

  • Amy says:

And now your theme is totally different on the front page! Did I just so happen to comment right as you were changing?

  • Anna says:

Because you caught me in the middle of changing themes to see which one I like, hehe… I have no idea which one you liked now! What color was it?

  • Amy says:

I’ve made a whopping $12 since August. Ha!

Hey, how come your theme changes when you comment? That was disconcerting. I REALLY like the theme on your main page!

  • Anna says:

On my Bloggers for Dollars blog I have to admit, I say the word “blog” a lot, hehe.. but dang, every fricking Google ad is about blog this and blog that… blah… I finally removed all the ads… truth be told, I might have a better chance with Google on a blog with no specific theme… at least them maybe the ads would have a little variety…

    Thanks for stopping by… :)

  • Adam says:

It’s a bit difficult when the blog doesn’t have a specific theme. The more people you have coming into your blog, the more chances they will click on one of the links. I have blogged for a long long time but have earned less than $200.

  • Anna says:

    um, nevermind, hehe….

I’m not sure what I changed… but it is working now for some reason…

The only problem is that my words are overlapping the avatars… I don’t know how to fix that…

  • Anna says:

what are the settings that need to be the same?

Actually, I made a new account for Anna to be different than Admin for other reasons, not for MyAvatars… and now that seems to have fixed my problem with MyAvatars… except for the overlapping text…

  • Anna says:

I’ll play around with it this evening…

Thank you for coming over here to look! I love the plugin and thanks again for making it… :)

  • Anna says:

I agree Bismut… I don’t anticipate I’ll ever have a lot of traffic to this blog since it is a personal journal and not a blog many people would be interested in reading… I have a really boring life!

  • Anna says:

Now you did it! You made me add another feed to my Google reader, hehe…

I loved your post about PPP
